Better known for its thriving community of rugged hipsters, food aficionados and creative talent, Brooklyn is fast becoming a hub of high fashion. Jen Mankins, owner of Bird boutique, has decided to keep it in the Brooklyn family with her third (and largest) boutique in Williamsburg. Like many places in the area, the boutique also has its own story to tell. “The space used to be a loading dock for a bakery, complete with a furnace at the back. My husband is Swedish, so I was influenced by the minimalism of Scandinavian design and my love for Japanese aesthetics” explains Bird owner Jen Mankins.

Result? A mix of custom made fixtures and furnishings, alongside natural materials like wood provide a clean canvas to showcase the products in-store. At Bird NYC, you’ll find a mix of designer labels including 3.1 Phillip Lim, Isabel Marant, Proenza Schouler, and lesser known labels like Tsumori Chisato and Mansur Gavriel. Bird also supports the local community through commissioned artwork in its space, with rotating installations and hosts two art shows a year - something in addition to look forward to (and a good excuse to go shopping!).
